I have always been a huge fan of scary/horror movies and stories. I watch Ghost Hunters like it’s going out of style. But I never thought I’d experience my own ghostly encounter. I admit: I am the BIGGEST chicken shit this side of the universe. I am not, nor have I ever been, tempted to go out trying to figure out if something is haunted. When I watch those wonderfully creepy movies, I am usually under blankets, peeking out and screaming “Don’t go in there, you idiot!” LOL. It’s quite fun to watch and listen to scary things when it’s not happening to you.
About thirteen years ago, my sister moved into a railroad style apartment. What that means is that the place had one long hallway and rooms branched off. So in one end you had the bedroom and in the other the bathroom. It was my first visit. She and her roommate had individual rooms. When I arrived, my sister’s roommate was out, so I didn’t get a chance to meet her. I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Because this was my first visit, I was wide awake in order to get myself to the bathroom. I walked down the dark hallway and used the restroom.
On my way back, down the dark hallway again, I saw a woman standing by the roommate’s door. Obviously, I assumed it was the roommate. I stopped midway down. Something just held me there. The woman, who wore a white old fashion nightgown, looked from the right to the left. I frowned, unsure what to say. She appeared in deep thought. I wanted to introduce myself but, again, something told me to ‘shut the hell up’. So I watched her. It dawned on me that she had some sort of brightness around her and it was weird because she lit the place up. She looked up and something grabbed hold of my lungs and squeezed. I wanted to scream out to my sister but my vocal chords were frozen in place.
The woman, still looking directly at me, stepped to the left and walked right through the wall.
Darkness enveloped the place again and I had to blink a few times to get used to the dark. My heart beat double time and I was so scared I couldn’t even breathe. Incredulity made me walk to the wall and feel on it. I touched and touched but it was just a wall.
The next morning I met the roommate. She was not the woman I’d seen the night before. I explained to both women what I saw and they gave me a knowing look. The roommate stated there was a lot of stuff that happened in that place. The experience is etched in my brain and I still can’t explain what happened. My sister moved to a new place not long after and I never went back to that apartment again.
