Do you like to role-play? Like to play those games online where you’re a goblin or a warrior? My favorite holiday is Halloween because I can dress up and be whoever I want to. It’s great. No one can say, you can’t look like that or that’s too outrageous. Why? Because everyone is dressed up!
I wrote a story where one of the characters assumes a persona when he’s on stage. He wears garish makeup and spikes his hair. But he’s very tame in real life. (Check out Here Without You to learn more.) I like this character because he gets to play with both sides of his personality. He doesn’t lie about who he is, he just happens to look different sometimes.
I so want to be him. I want to be able to step into a personality and hit the stage. Might help to be a rock star, but everyone has to have a dream. Grin. But since I can’t, I’ll have fun on Halloween!
Who am I going to dress up as? Hmm. Two years ago I rocked the vampire look. DH even told me I had great base makeup. Would’ve been good except the base makeup he referred to was my skin! Oh well. Last year I was a wicked faery with giant blue wings. That was fun until I poked people with the wings. They didn’t appreciate that too much. A few years ago I dressed up as a guy. I drew in a thick handlebar mustache and everything. The only issue there was the eyeliner didn’t wash all the way off and I had to explain the next day why I looked like I needed to shave.
So this year...hmm...I’m not big on things attached to my face, so masks are out. I’ve got devil horns, but those don’t really work because no one would believe I was dressed up. Hey, I rock a mean set of devil horns on an everyday basis. I could be a princess, but that’s another one of those where no one would believe me. Gosh. I don’t know what I’ll be this year.
