So when I talk about my particular publisher and what it was that attracted me to them, one would think that I would be lending some great insight into the industry or my knowledge on the subject… Not in the least. Let me be clear – I got lucky! Oh so very lucky. Let me explain.
As a new author when I started considering what publishers I wanted to pitch my book to, I didn’t know where to begin. I’m sure many new authors research and research and research, and truthfully, I didn’t. NO – this is not good advice… I would always advocate researching your publishing options. One thing I’ve learned is that there are likely just as many bad publishers as good – if not more! But, I was lucky. Liquid Silver Books has contracted three of my books now, and I’ve discovered that I’m really in a good place with them. They’re reputable, successful, and I know that due consideration will always be given to my manuscripts. No, this is not a plug for LSB. This is truthfully my story of being published.
With my first book, I found a website that listed a number of Ebook publishers. I had no idea if they were good or bad or if there was even such a thing as good or bad! I wanted to get this darn book published and that was my only real goal. Why I chose to submit my manuscript to LSB was simple: their process was simple! I don’t like jumping through hoops, and I’m not patient. I literally had a response within two weeks, and the response made it clear that every last chapter of my book had been thoroughly read and considered. The book was contracted soon after, and the rest is history.
Thus far, I’ve been given no reason not to submit my work to LSB. If a manuscript is ever rejected outright and I feel strongly that it has its place being published, I’ll consider taking it somewhere else, but until that happens, I’ll give LSB the consideration they’ve shown me. They’ve offered me tools, industry information, and they’ve always been there to answer my questions.
My recommendation for a new author: don’t follow in my footsteps… Do your research. You don’t want to fall into a bad situation. There are plenty of reputable and good publishers out there, but there are many many many less than reputable ones as well. Don’t think you’ll get lucky like I did – I still thank my lucky stars that I came out okay given my complete lack of industry knowledge at the time. So my advice – do what I didn’t do. Research and then go for it!
