The Halloween Gift

Most people don't get gifts on Halloween, but when I was twelve, I got one. It didn't come in a box or wrapped in a bow. Instead, this gift came on all fours and meowed her hello.

I have always wanted a cat, and that year I got one. And I loved her instantly.

We heard about Pookie through one of my mom's friends. Her next-door neighbor had gotten a kitten for her kids, but once those kids grew tired of her, the owners tossed the poor animal outside.

Pookie didn't stray from the house that she called home. Despite that the owner always came out and shooed her away, she always came back. Through the cold and rainy nights, she would curl up in a ball by the front door, probably hoping they would let her in and love her once more. They never did.

They didn't want Pookie, so my mom's friend called her up and told us about her neighbor's kitten. We took her in and gave her the love she had needed.

She turned out to be a great cat, and in time, even became a loving mother to two litters of kittens. She was always happy and healthy, so it came as a shock when she passed so suddenly last October. She is missed.

Animals have always been important to me, and I'm a huge supporter of animal welfare and rescue. I would even like to tell you all about a very special romance novel that has an animal subplot.

From now until December 31, I will be donating 50% of my royalties from Rescued Love to the Humane Society of the United States. So get your copy today!

One by one, household dogs disappear only to come back after senseless abuse. Veterinarian Jordan Powell will stop at nothing to ensure her patients' safety. Even if that means seeking help from ex-boyfriend, police officer Nate Thrillson, the man whose heart she once broke.

The last thing Nate wants is a relationship. He has an inoperable cancerous tumor in his brain and his days are numbered. Yet, he couldn't resist Jordan.

It's a race against time to save the dogs and the man who captured her heart. Can the doctor, who made a life out of helping animals, heal a human?

* Note: Rescued Love is sensual, but not erotic.

Since I shared with you a story of my special Halloween gift, I will give one of you a gift as well. You can enter to win a free copy of my newest story to date, To Die Tonight.

The rules of life and death don't apply on Halloween!

Hairdresser Tina Velks is dying from a heart defect. When she learns that her newest client is a vampire, she plans to feed on him. After all, if she becomes a vampire, she will live forever. Too bad she doesn’t know that on All Hallows' Eve, a human who tastes vampire blood dies before sunrise, never to be resurrected.

Luke Cardwell is shocked when he meets Tina. She looks, smells, and even tastes like the woman who turned him, Isadora Blake. As Isadora was dying in his arms hundreds of years ago, she promised that her soul would be reborn in another woman. He suspects Tina is that woman. However, during a night of passion, she drinks his blood.

With only hours left until sunrise, will Luke be able to break the curse and save the woman he loves?
